Our ‘new normal’ January 2021

We hope this finds you and your family in the best of health. We are pleased to announce that our practice is still open to patients.

Whilst many things have changed, we want to reassure you that we remain committed to your safety. We have always maintained the highest standards of infection control and will continue to do all that we can to keep you safe.

We would like to inform you of changes we have implemented to reduce the risk to you, your families and to our staff.

  • We will call you or send a letter to offer an appointment if you do not already have one.
  • Please arrive no more than 5 minutes early or 5 minutes late for the appointment. Latecomers will have to be re-booked as seeing them will disrupt our carefully planned appointment schedule that enables us to maintain social distancing.
  • It would assist us in social distancing if the patient could come into the practice alone. If this is not possible please limit accompanying carers to a single adult if possible. If the waiting room is full we may have to ask parents or guardians to wait outside in order to allow everyone to maintain social distancing. Accompanying carers are asked to wear their own facial covering (mask). We will not be able to provide face-masks for patients or accompanying carers as it would use up our stock and thus prevent us from seeing patients.
  • Only the patient will be allowed in the surgery (please contact us on 01252 625235 once an appointment is booked if you have any reasons why you need to be in the surgery with your child). We may have to delay seeing the patient until lock-down restrictions are lifted further if it is not possible for the patient to be treated without a carer present.
  • We will do our best to allow more time between patients to reduce any waiting times and the traffic of people in the practice.
  • Any appointments that can be conducted virtually will continue to be performed virtually to reduce the risk of exposure.
  • We will make future appointments on the day
  • Please contact us if you have to change appointments.

Due to these guidelines, we will be seeing fewer patients per day so please be patient with us. We have a back-log of patients to see and will try to prioritise those in most need.

On the day of your visit.

  • Please come to the front door and ring the door bell, please wait to be invited into the practice.
  • When you arrive we will ask some simple Covid-19 screening questions. The patient’s and carer’s temperature will be taken. Patients displaying any signs of corona virus or with temperatures above 37.8˚C will be rescheduled. Please do not take any paracetamol prior to the appointment as this makes the readings inaccurate.
  • Patients (and carers) will be asked to clean their hands with hand gel for 20 seconds upon entering the practice.
  • If you need to make a phone call during your time with us please leave the building. Please resist the urge to use your phone after you have used hand sanitiser as you will have to clean your hands again…..
  • Only the patient will be allowed in the surgery.
  • Use of the toilet is not permitted, except in emergencies.
  • We will send a treatment update with your child, please feel free to request a call to discuss the appointment with the treating clinician.
  • We will always wear  gloves, a mask, face shield and a disposable apron.
  • All team members will be health screened before their shift.

Unfortunately, the virus is still a threat. However, we have always used universal precautions and we will continue to do so.

Best wishes from all the team at Acorn Orthodontics
